Elgin Recap
Not even an intense winter blast could keep the Spitfires from heading up the highway for an early afternoon tilt with the Elgin-Middlesex Chiefs, with first place in the Western Division hanging in the balance.

This one got started slow for the Spits who, only 3 minutes in, found themselves down a goal as the Chiefs took it to the boys for the first half of the opening frame. After that the Spits slowly started to find their legs and began to mount an attack of their own. The momentum swing was apparent as the team began to get some pucks at the Chiefs net.

It wasn’t until the second period when Mateo Nepszy was able to pick up a puck in his own end and storm down the right wing, blowing past a Chiefs defender on the outside and ripping one through the five-hole to tie things up at one. This was the story all afternoon for the line of Mateo, Konnor Smith and Ethan Olafson. They out-hustled their opponent each and every shift and created many scoring chances for themselves, while at the same time taking care of their own end.  Great job boys.

In net it was Trevor Heslop stealing the show for the Spits as he was swallowing up everything that the Chiefs threw at him and looked very comfortable against some real talented Chief forwards. The 3rd period saw the Spits really pour it on however multiple chances at both ends got nothing done and the game ended up in a 1-1 tie.

A fantastic effort by all the players in a very tough place to play against a very strong team. Way to go Boys!!

Next up….a key 3 game set against the rival London Knights.
