London recap
In the first of a 3 game set with rival London, the Spitfires headed up the 401 for a huge Divisional battle against the Knights. And this one was a real heated contest.

The Spits showed no signs of “bus legs” early on came out firing in the first period. The boys were working real hard and grinding out their chances for the majority of the period but weren’t able to make a dent in the Knights goaltender. That all ended when Matthew Mongeau picked up a  puck in his own end, streaked down the left side and feathered a beauty pass to Gavin Grundner. Gavin made no mistake and roofed a backhand high over the Knight goalie for the 1-0 lead. A mere 8 seconds later…..puck is dropped at center….Nate Dowling picks up puck….bulls his way through 3 London players…..snipes Windsor’s second goal!

The boys carried that momentum through the next period and a half while getting the support from Trevor Heslop in net when he had to shut down the high powered London attack. On to the third period and the wheels started to come off a little bit. The Spits started to sit back and let the Knights gain momentum. It didn’t take long for the game to be tied 2-2 which set up a thrilling last few minutes. That was when Nate decided to take matters into his own hands… Nate grabbed a loose puck at center and took off on his own down his off wing and after getting around a couple players, fired a sneaky shot past the Knights goaltender for a 3-2 lead. From there the Spits relied on the defense to keep the London attack from getting the equalizer and they did a tremendous job. All 6 defenseman sacrificed their bodies, blocked shots and contained London all afternoon. Which was not an easy task!! Great job D!

Now it’s time for some Christmas cheer and a well-deserved Holiday break before the boys return to play London again in the New Year.

Great first half fellas!!
