This past weekend the Windsor 99's traveled to Johnstown & Pittsburgh for a number of weekend team activities.
On Friday the 99's were invited to meet with GM Rick Boyd and head coach Mike Letizia of the North American Leagues Johnstown Tomahawks at the famous Johnstown War Memorial, movie location for the iconic hockey film Slapshot.
Players and parents were given a tour of the Tomahawks lockeroom along with a brief discussion and intro to the Tomahawks staff, organization and the North American Jr A Hockey League in gerneral.
After the tour the team loaded up the bus and headed to Pittsburgh to take on the 1998 Major Midget Esmark Stars in the first of two exhibition games. Following the game (4-1 Esmark) the 99's attended the Pittsburgh Penguins vs Carolina Hurricanes game at the Consol Energy Center.
On Saturday, due to weather conditions the 99's were unable to make the trip to Penn State Arena. Thankfully, the Tomahawks offered their icetime for a quick morning skate before the final exhibition game vs Esmark just prior to the NAHL game vs Janesville.
With many NCAA and Junior A teams in attendance for the weekend the coaching staff was very pleased at how hard and aggressive our players played verses an older Esmark squad.
The entire staff, players and parents from the Windsor 99's would like to thank Rick Boyd, Greg Pilewicz, Mike Letizia, Katie Saylor and all the staff and personnel from the Johnstown Tomahawks, Pittsburgh Penguins and Esmark Stars for a memorable and enjoyable weekend!
Last but not least, a big big thanks to all the parents who attended and helped assist with all the weekend activities!!
