Welcome to the Spitfires 2006's
Windsor AAA Zone Atom Minor (2006) -   Message from the Head Coach:

Thank you all for considering our AAA Hockey program for your child’s development. The Atom Minor level is the first step into the highest level of competitive hockey in the region.  This makes it arguably the most important season in a young hockey player’s career, and it is important that he or she has the best possible coaching staff to lead them into their next challenge. We believe we have the best to offer in terms of balance between skill development, a competitive team, and a fun creative and positive environment.

The Program:

At this level, technical skills are the primary focus in terms of development; Confidence and encouraging an instinctive read and react mentality are what will make this team and these players successful.

Practices will be clearly laid out prior to getting on the ice. With 3 hours of practice time per week, it is important to be efficient and get the most out of our ice time with little to no “board talk” on ice.

Key Focus as a coaching staff:

  • Get to know the players on an individual level – find out what motivates them
  • Lots of scrimmage time (small space and full ice). Nothing substitutes for game-like situations.
  • Encourage Creativity – Probably the most important to myself personally. At this age, have fun out there, and try new things – they will never be discouraged from expressing their own individual creativity.  This is what gave myself and so many others success as a hockey player.

Practice breakdown:

50% technical skills

20% hockey sense (read and react), individual tactics

25% team skills and systems (Break-outs, F1, F2, F3 concepts entering offensive zone, positional play)

5% concepts in strategy (why we are teaching and practicing certain things… demonstrating vision and things to look for with and without the puck)

Coaching Staff:

Everyone picked to coach this team, was chosen so because they are “Player’s coaches”.  This means that we can relate to the players and get on their level.  I believe this is the only way to bring the best out of them. They need to trust their coaches, and have no fear in asking questions when they don’t understand something.  This coaching staff will keep things loose off the ice and will lead by example to earn the players’ and parents’ respect on and off the ice.

This years coaching staff consists of 3 ex-Junior C players, and 1 or two Windsor AAA alumni (depending on commitment of the second):
