Ottawa Senators Draft Novak #188
On June 23, 2018 late into the afternoon Windsor AAA Alumni Jakov Novak was drafted by the Ottawa Senators in the 7th round with pick number 188.  Novak's development has taken a winding route from the Windsor AAA program to the North American Hockey League (NAHL) Janesville Jets, where he was the leading scorer for the Jets/NAHL and selected as the forward of the year and league MVP

Novak attended the Ottawa Senators development camp this past week and will continue his hockey playing at Bentley University just outside of Boston, Mass.  Since leaving the Windsor AAA Midget Program, Novak has continued to work hard and improve his game, getting noticed by the NHL scouts while learning from all the coaches along the way.
Jakov knows this isn't the easiest route to playing professional hockey and told the Windsor Star recently:

“At the end of the day, I know a lot of guys enter the NHL who are not drafted,” Novak said. “Even if I hadn’t gotten drafted, I know it doesn’t define me. I just keep the same routine and keep playing for the love of the game.”

That is the reason kids begin to play hockey - for the love of the game.
