His recent tenure includes leading the Windsor Jr. Spitfires U16 AAA team through high-stakes, championship-winning seasons. Among his most notable achievements are capturing both Alliance and Division Championships and successfully guiding teams to the OHL Cup—clear evidence of his ability to build competitive, cohesive, and winning cultures.
Philosophy: Building Athletes and Individuals
Matt’s coaching philosophy centers on mentorship that extends well beyond the rink. He instills a culture of:
• Accountability & Honesty: Ensuring players take ownership of their development.
• Structure & Discipline: Emphasizing time management and preparation to ready athletes for the "next level."
Passion for the Game
While the championships are rewarding, Matt’s favorite part of coaching is witnessing his players achieve their personal goals and reach their full potential. Inspired by the tactical brilliance and creativity of hockey legends like Wayne Gretzky, Matt blends strategic, "intelligent" hockey with a player-first mentality.
A lifelong fan of the Edmonton Oilers, Matt originally began coaching to give back to the sport that shaped his life. His deep knowledge, relentless work ethic, and commitment to mentorship make him the ideal leader for the 2013 group as they enter this pivotal U14 AAA season.
