Matt Zuccato brings a wealth of experience, passion, and mentorship to the U16 AAA team as Head Coach for the 2025–2026 season. With over 14 years of coaching experience and a High Performance coaching certification, Matt has been a cornerstone in developing young talent in the Windsor Jr. Spitfires program.
As a former AAA player himself, Matt understands firsthand the dedication and mindset required to excel at elite levels. His coaching journey includes leading teams like the Windsor Jr. Spitfires U16, where he has guided players through championship-winning seasons. Among his proudest accomplishments are capturing both Alliance and Division Championships and leading teams to the OHL Cup — testaments to his ability to build competitive, cohesive teams.
Matt's coaching philosophy centers on being a strong mentor both on and off the ice. He emphasizes accountability, honesty, and structure, helping players grow not only as athletes but as individuals. His approach to player development focuses heavily on time management, structure, and instilling the discipline necessary for success at the next level.
To support player transitions, Matt actively creates opportunities for his athletes to affiliate with Junior teams (AP), giving them early exposure to higher levels of play and competition. He looks for players with a relentless work ethic, a great attitude, and a true passion for the game.
Matt’s favorite part of coaching goes beyond the championships — it's seeing his players achieve their personal goals and grow into their potential. Inspired by the creativity and intelligence of hockey legends like Wayne Gretzky, Matt blends strategic thinking with a player-first mentality.
A lifelong fan of the Edmonton Oilers, Matt initially got into coaching out of a desire to give back to the sport that's given him so much. His dedication, knowledge, and ability to mentor young athletes make him an invaluable part of our AAA program.
