Windsor AAA Minor Midgets Advance to OHL Cup
The Windsor AAA Minor Midgets road to the Cup
After an up and down season, the Windsor AAA Midget Minor team has accomplished one of their major goals. Qualifying for the OHL Cup.
The boys finished the regular season in 6th place and in the first round of play downs, upset the 3rd seeded Elgin Middlesex Cheifs 3 games to 1.
Up next was the top ranked London Jr. Knights. Having lost the season series 3 games to 0, and losing the first 3 games of an 8 point series, Windsor was in tough shape, but managed to battle back and stretch the series to force game 7. Unfortunately, they lost game 7 which send them to the 3rd place series.
Windsor then met Kitchener in a best of 3 series for a guaranteed spot in the OHL Cup. Windsor went to Kitchener and won an excellent game one by the score of 3-2. The second game did not work out as planned as Windsor allowed early goals and fell 4-2 to Kitchener. In the 3rd and deciding game, Windsor found themselves down 2-1 heading into the 3rd period. With their backs against the wall and playing on the road, the boys exploded for a goal scoring spree and added 5- 3rd period goals. Winning the game 6-3 and securing their opportunity to play in the OHL Cup with the other top 20 teams in Ontario.
The boys are now preparing for a once in a lifetime tournament, starting March 15-21.
Congratulations to the team and go get em Boys
