Sun County Recap
In the second to last game of the regular season, the Spitfires faced off against their cross-county rivals Sun County.
The 2 teams have played each other tight this season and this one seemed to be following in that trend. The Spits started the first period a little bit sluggish as neither side was able to put anything up on the board in the first frame. In the second the Spitfire legs started to come to life and the boys started to put some rubber at the SC net. However after the second period the score was 2-0 for the visiting Panthers.
But as we have seen on more than one occasion, these Spitfires simply do not give up. The boys decided to spring to life in the 3rd and finally got on the board when Mateo Nepszy banged home a loose puck to cut the lead in half. But a few minutes later the Panthers responded with one of their own to restore the 2 goal lead. Then with under half of the 3rd period remaining the Spitfires began their comeback. It was Nate Dowling crashing the net on a powerplay and banging home a rebound to get the squad within one. And then it was “Diesel” Aguilar picking up a puck at the blue line and firing a rocket to the low corner to knot things up at 3 with under 2 minutes on the clock. The Spits put a final push on in the last few minutes but were unable to grab the extra point.
Final score 3-3. A great effort from the whole team and a fantastic comeback. These boys never seem to give up no matter what situation that they are in and always give it their best effort!.
