Coming off a win on Friday the Spits were matched up against the London Knights for their first meeting of the season on Sunday afternoon. This matchup featured 2 teams who look to take a stranglehold on the Western division in the Alliance and it would prove to be a tight checking affair.

The first period saw the Spits dictate the pace of play with a strong forecheck and some quick transitions which put the Knights back on their heels a little bit. At the midway point it was Brendan Gouin using the defenseman as a screen and firing home a nice shot to the low corner for the 1-0 lead. That would be how the first period would end up.

In the second period, the Spits started to get away from doing some of the little things and before long the Knights had clawed their way back into the game with a pair of goals to head to the 3rd period leading by 1 goal.

In the 3rd the Spits put the pressure on at times however the strong goaltending of the Knights didn’t allow any real momentum to be created. The boys kept at it right until the final buzzer but in the end they simply just ran out of time. Special mention to real solid effort from Phil DiMambro in net. He did everything he could to give his team a chance to win and we are real proud of his effort. The Spitfires look to get back on track as they head up to the Shanahan Tournament in Mississauga this coming weekend for what will surely be an exciting weekend.

Best of luck boys!!
