The spitfires had a big set of games this past weekend and did a tremendous job against some great competition.
Things started out on Friday night in Essex where the Spits were able to put together a real solid effort and knock off the Sun County Panthers by a score of 4-2 and a 5th straight win! With the win the Spits took over First Place in the Western Division setting up a huge game against Elgin-Middlesex.
On Saturday the boys fell behind early to the high flying Chiefs from Elgin. However as they always do, the Spits showed resilience and battled back like lions, outshooting and out-chancing the visitors for the remaining half of the contest. If there had been a few more minutes in the game it looked as though Elgin wouldn’t have been able to hang on to the tie. Final score in this one was 2-2. A fantastic effort from all players and a great statement game.
On Sunday the Spits headed out to Bothwell to line up across from the Chatham-Kent Cyclones. It was apparent in this one that the boys were feeling a bit of the wear and tear of the 3 game set and didn’t quite have the jump that was required. The Spits fell behind 2-0 after 2 periods and although they put together a flurry of offensive chances in the 3rdframe it wouldn’t be enough and the Spits fell by a score of 2-0.
Overall a great weekend of hockey and as always everyone is very proud of the effort.
